I guess we all have been hearing about Paytm or google or all digital payment platform KYC scam.
As per the rules of government all-digital platform seeking KYC from all the customers. People are used to do KYC in bank account by walking to the branch where physically need to submit the form of particular KYC along with all address proof documents.
Now it's the era of the digital revolution and everything can be done by sitting in a chair at home.
Normal digital KYC procedure would be you need to login to the digital platform and you take a screenshot of all required documents and upload the same to the platform application.
Recently, A woman is used to do all transactions by Paytm like at Uber, grocery shop, etc..
She was trying to make the transaction to Uber with Paytm and somehow it got failed with a system error.
The next day she got a call from a guy who said that your Paytm KYC is not completed that is why you are not able to finish a transaction. She said, I have been using Paytm since last two years and I have already done KYC.
The guy replied that your KYC is still not completed. it is just 40% still, you need to do 60% which is pending.
So she agreed on that because she was tired with transitions getting failed all the time. We all know that we should never share OTP, CVV or any other private security information related to digital transactions. she also well aware of the same.
The guy who was on call with her, he asked to install Quick port application to finish KYC of Paytm. She installed the same app on her mobile.
Now guy asked her to do the transaction on the Paytm app with his debit card. She was entering all the information of the debit card. She was sure that she didn't share any information during a call with the guy.
So the transaction of Rs. 1 has been made. she knows that some platforms like google pay and amazon pay all are doing Rs 1 transaction to verify the same and do KYC.
Suddenly after sometime Rs. 1455 has been deducted from the account of the HDFC bank and still, the guy was on the call. the after transaction Rs. 99999 being done on the same account.
she received called from HDFC bank to verify the transaction. Sometimes HDFC bank calls the customer when a big amount of transaction being made on the account. She keeps saying to the Bank executive that She didn't do these transactions but still the money has been gone form the account.
She went to cyber police to file the complaint for the same fraud. The police office shout at her rather than filing complain and to take action against it.
The next day she got the call from the same guy, she went to police station and told to police officer. The office has given the best solution to block numbers. (very funny, right! do know the mental state of that woman and his husband)
She asked the Cyber branch police office to trace the number. The officer said, "Madam, you are watching crime petrol too much".
Do you think this is the right way to acknowledge the people in police station?
Do you think the verification call from the Bank for the same transaction can't hold it?
Do you think the Paytm can do something to get money back?
Do you think all these KYC verifications are a scam?
Long story short, please beware of such stupid things happening here and there.
Do not install any other application on your mobile. you never know who is spying on you.
